Wesley Mission Victoria
BEST Community Development, as the Australian Government's Innovation Fund Panel Provider, is partnering with Wesley Mission Victoria to support their newly established Social Enterprises Hub that will help Victoria’s most disadvantaged job seekers find and retain long term employment.
The Catering for All Abilities Project under the Innovation Fund will allow The Last Cuppa, a social enterprise of Wesley in partnership with BEST Community Development, to provide opportunities for up to 60 unemployed people with a disability and/or mental illness living in the co-located Yarra Community Housing complex at 660 Elizabeth Street, and in the broader Yarra Employment Service Area. Wesley and Green Collect share the social enterprise hub.
The project will offer paid work placements, accredited training options and unpaid work experience, to help disadvantaged job seekers prepare for entry into the hospitality industry.
Participants will also have access to a range of support services including mentoring, vocational rehabilitation, social networks and activities, and community resources.
The project will provide participants with professional skills, a robust connection to the community, and the opportunity to work in a dignified and supportive work environment.
The Innovation Fund supports projects which foster innovative solutions to overcoming barriers to employment.

Newforce Recruitment

As most BEST Community Development staff would be aware, we have a very close and important working relationship with Newforce Recruitment and Training located in Footscray, Melbourne. Newforce is a recruitment and training provider whose clients are varied, but most are migrants now living in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. They provide a service to communities in the Western suburbs, Dandenong and Melbourne CBD.
On Thursday 10 November, BEST Community Development was honoured to be invited to the graduation of 29 students in Certificate III in Children’s Services from Newforce Recruitment. The graduation took place at the Australian Light Foundation Centre in Tottenham and was attended by the students, families and staff of Newforce as well as representatives from cultural groups and leaders in the African community.
The afternoon had lots of laughing, smiles, cheering and a great selection of traditional food that was enjoyed by all.
Philip Murphy and Daryl Smith were asked to speak on behalf of BEST and present the students and staff with certificates of completion and recognition awards.
Our relationship with Newforce is very important to us all here at BEST as it reinforces our mission of “enhancing individuals, enriching the community”.
We look forward to the ongoing relationship with Newforce and the satisfaction that it brings tall parties involved.
